Setup and Launch

Agree on what counts as touch β€” hand, shoulder, elbow. Take a slice-of-life situation: breakfast, a talk after a fight, waiting for a bus.

Play

  1. Start the scene in silence, at a physical distance.
  2. When you want to speak β€” first find a reason to come close and make contact. Contact is on β€” you can talk.
  3. Contact breaks β€” speech cuts off, even mid-word.
  4. Play for 90 seconds, then debrief: which lines came out of movement, which ones you wanted to drop in without the body.

Key rules

  • Touch can be hand, shoulder, elbow. Agree upfront what counts as contact.

  • Silence is not a pause, it's a move. Use it to build the staging.

  • Don't cling to your partner just to talk β€” let the scene cling to itself.

  • If it turns into silent film β€” that's fine, it means the scene is alive without words.
