Crazy Eights
Warm-up for rhythm, voice, and sync. Shake each limb in sequence while counting down from eight to one β fast, loud, together.
Full description
Setup and Launch
- Stand in a circle, facing the center. Everyone should be able to see each other.
- Explain the task: you'll shake each limb in turn while the whole group counts out loud together.
Flow
- Raise your left arm and shake your hand eight times, everyone counting in unison: "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight!" Make it loud β the counting is what locks the group together.
- Drop the left arm, raise the right β eight shakes, same count.
- Left leg β eight shakes, counting aloud.
- Right leg β eight shakes, counting aloud.
- Back to the left arm, but now count only to seven. Run the full cycle (left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg) at seven. Then six, five, four, three, two, one.
- The pace naturally accelerates as the numbers drop. By four or three, the room is moving fast and getting louder.
- The final round of "one!" β a single shake per limb β closes the exercise. It usually lands with a burst of laughter and spontaneous applause.
Key rules
Count out loud together on a shared beat β the counting is what locks the group in sync.
Move simultaneously at one tempo; don't rush ahead or fall behind.
Keep the order: left arm β right arm β left leg β right leg.
As the rep count drops, speed up without losing rhythm or synchrony.
