Yes, Because
A development of 'Yes, yes, yes': participants confirm their partner's statements and find reasons why they are true; this justification often pleasantly surprises and broadens perspective.
Full description
Setup and Launch
Explain to the group that this is an extension of the basic agreement practice, where confirmation is paired with a short justification. Work in pairs: each person has a partner whose statements are accepted as true and supported.
Set the intention: the goal is to support what your partner said and show how it can be true from a certain perspective.
How It Works
- One participant freely makes short statements or shares facts about anything.
- Their partner responds to each statement with agreement ("yes").
- When the first participant's speech naturally pauses, the second adds a brief reason or explanation for why what was said should be considered true.
- Continue in the same mode, maintaining support and clarity of phrasing.
Key rules
Listen to your partner's continuous stream of speech without interrupting β enter with your justification only after a natural pause.
Formulate a reason why what was said is true; avoid arguments and attempts to refute.
Offer a warm, unexpected angle β the goal is to support and expand your partner's perspective.
