Tracers
Also known as: Tracers
A long-form series of scenes that all take place at the same time in and around one location.
Full description
Setup and Launch
Ask the audience for a suggestion. Take the location for the show from it.
Flow
Over there, around the corner, upstairs, in that passing car, something is happening. One slice of life, thirty different angles.
Players who are not in a scene wait backstage.
1. The first scene
For example, off a suggestion of "fish water" the first scene is the back of a restaurant: two workers are gutting fish. A waiter walks through at one point and drops off a stack of dishes.
2. Editing with a speech
To edit a scene, a player β usually one not in the current scene β steps forward, faces the audience, and begins speaking. While he speaks, the players from the previous scene clear. He continues his speech as he settles into the new scene. Then another player steps out to reveal whom he had been talking to.
3. The next scene
A later scene might show the dining room of the same restaurant: two customers are arguing. At one point a waiter comes in, stacks up their plates, and leaves. That is the moment before what the audience saw in the first scene.
